I know how your friend feels, but I also agree with you.
Yesterday was our 40th wedding anniversary, and although it is harder to celebrate than it used to be, the terrorists are not going to win. Ten years ago, when the 9/11 attack happened, it was (obviously) our 30th anniversary. We had a BIG trip planned, thought about not going, but in the end, did. There were 40+ people on the tour with us and we were a really close group from the get-go. All had decided to go ahead with life and not let the terrorists rule. That has helped me each year. Our celebrations definitely have a somber side, remembering all the people who lost their lives, but we have to go on.

good for you to remember your friend's birthday! If it were my birthday, I think rather than not celebrating, I would move the celebration to a different date but hopefully she will find her self wanting to be celebrated - either on the day or one close to it. It was horrid for all of us....and like other dates in history, one not to forgot but not to ignore it either.
